Frequently asked questions
OUR CLUB
Fife Sailability is a club. Like all clubs it is run by its members for its members. Members pay a fee at the beginning of the year which allows them to have a pre booked place for getting out on the water each club day for the season.
WHEN?
Every 2 weeks from April-Sept/Oct on a Saturday. There is approximately 13 -14 club days per year.
TIME?
Volunteers arrive about 9am on club days to get everything set up for the first boat sailing at 10am. Pre-booked sessions are 45minutes to 1hour long depending on which boat you are in. Everyone is normally off the water by 4pm.
WHERE?
On club days we are based in the blue bus shelter with picnic benches by the Outdoor education centre at Lochore Meadows. There is a car park which can be busy and there are disabled parking bays. From the car park to boats the ground is either tarmac or paved and is smooth accessible surface. The jetty to the boats is wooden but is a even surface suitable for wheelchairs.
ACCESSIBLE CHANGING & TOILETS
Available in the Outdoor Centre.
HOW MUCH
2025 fees have been £85 for adults and £50 for Juniors (Under 18) for the season. This will be reviewed at the club AGM which is in January each year.
AGE?
Our minimum age is 10. There is no maximum age.
WHO IS THE CLUB FOR
Everyone. The club provides an opportunity to boating for those who may be unable to access boating without adaptations

No barriers to those who have a physical or mental impairment

We have various adaptations for those who require a hoist into the boats of for those visually impaired.
HOW ARE PLACES ALLOCATED?
Existing members are offered the opportunity to re-join first. Any spaces that become available will be offered to those on the waiting list. Once members join and pay, they are allocated a boat and time slot which is the same, every 2 weeks during the season.
WHAT KIT DO I NEED?
Warm clothes and water proofs are always essential. A life jacket is provided along with a sling if the hoist is needed. Blankets or hand warmers for wheelchair. Even on a dry day, sometimes you can get a little splashed so water proofs recommended. It always feels cooler out on the water.
TEA & COFFEE / SOUP & ROLL
For club days, our amazing volunteer Diane organised Tea & Coffees, soup and rolls. We ask for a minimum of £1 donation. We also welcome donations of tea, coffee, hot chocolate and biscuits.
GROUP BOOKINGS
Session run during the week are bookings for the whole boat (Kitty or Wheelyboat) for a morning/afternoon. These are usually booked by schools, care homes and organisations.
HOW DO I GET NAME ONTO WAITING LIST?
Download the ‘Apply to join’ form from the FORMS page which can be completed and returned as an attachment to the club secretary fife.sailability@gmail.com, . This allows us to collate the information to find a suitable slot.
BAD WEATHER
If it is deemed unsafe and we need to cancel a club day, we will contact you to let you know. We will also post update on club facebook page.
CAFÉ MEETS
Where possible, we will arrange a few café meets during the winter at the Lochore Meadows Willie Clarke Centre. All club members and volunteers are welcome.
