Sailability enables disabled people, and their friends and families, to sail!
About us

Welcome!

Sailability enables disabled people, and their friends and families, to try sailing and take part regularly! It’s the perfect activity to feel tranquillity and freedom on the water. With the clubs new powerboat, there is also the opportunity for Wheelyboat’s users to helm (drive) the powerboat themselves and participate as members of the crew from their own wheelchair.

Fife Sailability is a Club specifically for those with a disability and is based at Lochore Meadows Watersports Centre in central Fife.  Like all clubs it is run by its members for its members. The membership consists of volunteers and sailing members.  The volunteers are drawn from all walks of life and bring to the club a passion for boats and sailing which they love to share with others.

What we offer

RYA

We operate as part of the Royal Yachting Association's Sailability initiative, facilitating the exhilaration and freedom that sailing can bring to all. We can mix & match gentle cruising, hands on sailing or formal training to suit individual needs and welcome groups or single participants. Parents and/or carers are welcome to share the experience.

We supply essential safety equipment but visitors need to wear clothing suitable for a cool and rainy day. We have a dedicated changing/shower/toilet facility for our disabled participants. We are qualified to transfer sailors with our certified hoists and set high standards in safety and protection of vulnerable persons.

When do we sail?

Our active season is April to September inclusive. Our regular sailing times are alternate Saturdays, other times are possible with prior arrangement. We welcome those who seek a single "taster" session, but are delighted to help those who wish to sail regularly and improve their skills and confidence.

Sailability prides itself in its inclusive policy with disabled sailors able to sail alongside able-bodied sailors on equal terms. We also like to recognise any achievements with award certificates, linked with a recognised RYA Training Centre, and can deliver training to internationally recognised standards.

Volunteer!

The club could not survive without the efforts of our dedicated team of helpers who are on hand to help wherever needed. We are continually looking for new volunteers, both sailors and land lovers. If you have any time to spare we would love to hear from you.

We operate a rota of helpers, so whether you have just a couple of Saturdays a year spare or more your help will be appreciated to keep us afloat.
